Endo and Postendo Treatment

This module describes digital technologies that support the basic goals of diagnosis and treatment as well as provide some information on their efficacy and effectiveness where appropriate. The main objective is to see how 3D technology significantly helps the diagnosis, and at the same time determines in a fundamental way the treatment plan (clinical decision making).

Digital workflow allows planning all types of cases in Endodontics from the cameral access, the instrumentation and obturation of the root canal systems, the management of the different types of resorption, calcified root canals, or the surgical access in endodontic surgery.

In describing these technologies, it is essential to remember that the most important objective of these technologies is to improve diagnostic and treatment outcomes.

Day 1: Introduction to endodontics

  • Anatomy of the root canal system
  • Traditional endodontic cavity (TEC), conservative endodontic cavity (CEC), or ultraconservative "ninja" endodontic cavity (NEC)
  • Cervical Margins Relocation (CMR) / Deep margin elevation (DME) versus crown lengthening: biologic width revisited
  • Diagnosis and treatment planning in Endodontics
  • Isolation of the Operative & Endodontic field
  • Preflaring & Glide Path
  • Endodontic instrumentation techniques (reciprocating vs rotary instruments)
  • Present day irrigants
  • Review of thermal obturation: history and contemporary techniques
  • Hands on training: cameral access under microscopy, instrumentation and obturation of root canal system

Day 2: CBCT & Dental Traumatology Update

  • 2D vs 3D. Applications of cone beam computed tomography in Endodontics
  • Endodontic trauma: pathogenesis and treatment
  • Long-term complications of dental trauma
  • Colour change in traumatised anterior permanent teeth
  • Guided root canal treatment with surgical guides
  • Digital planning in intentional replantation and autotransplantation
  • Decoronation technique
  • Hands-on training: SICAT Endo software

Day 3: Nonsurgical retreatment and endodontic surgery

  • Management of endodontic failure (causes and biology of the failed endodontic case)
  • Internal and external resorption
  • Tactics in overcoming failure
  • Removal of GP, posts and instruments from canals
  • Use of apical barriers in Endodontics, eg MTA, and other bioceramics
  • Endodontic surgery step by step: from the isolated o the apicomarginal lesions
  • Direct and indirect restorations
  • CAD/CAM restorations
  • Hands-on training: Posterior indirect bonded restorations
